Wiregrass Foundation Graduating Seniors Scholarship Program

The program was  designed to enable an estimated 180 Dothan City School System students and 63 Houston County School System students to enroll and persevere through certificate or two year transfer programs of study at Wallace Community College (WCC). The program required graduates to apply for all other scholarships and financial aid programs available through the college for which they qualified (see Eligibility Requirements).

A total of 178 students submitted applications for the scholarship program in the 2008-2009 academic year. Of these applicants, 129 students were approved to receive the scholarship.  For the 2009 fall semester, 184 applications were received and 81 were approved to receive funds. Although a number of the Class of 2009 were ineligible because of other financial aid resources, 68% of the students approved to receive the WF scholarship funds had no other financial resources. The other 32% had only partial financial resources and did not have enough funds to meet all of their educational expenses.

Recipients of WF scholarships were required to maintain a semester and cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. The average GPA of the WF scholarship student was 2.35 while others in the Class of 2008 maintained an average of 2.27.
